Mike Phelan will be in charge of Hull when they make their Premier League return against Leicester on Saturday.
The newly-promoted Tigers host the champions live on Sky Sports this weekend, less than three weeks after the departure of manager Steve Bruce.
Bruce's former assistant Phelan has been in temporary charge since then and has made it clear he wants the job full-time.
And the 53-year-old will now have the chance to press his claims by overseeing the visit of Claudio Ranieri's title-winners.
Phelan has the backing of Sky Sports expert Gary Neville, who worked under him at Manchester United.

"This is a good opportunity for him," Neville told Sky Sports Now. "He knows the players well so he's not going into a job where he has to get used to the team. He knows them and that's a massive positive for him and I wish him all the very best.
"He's got a lot of experience working at Manchester United and he's a number two so it's perfect timing for him to go on his own, he's always wanted to do it."
